OXFORD, Miss. – David St. John, noted American poet, shares his writings
\nin a free, public reading at 7 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 5) in the Overby
\nCenter Auditorium at the University of Mississippi.

\nSt. John
\nis part of the 2009-2010 Grisham Visiting Writers Series. He is the
\nauthor of nine collections of poetry, as well as a volume of essays. His
\nhonors include fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and
\nthe Guggenheim Foundation. St. John teaches at the University of Southern
\nCalifornia.\n<\/p>\n
\nA recent
\narticle in “Ploughshares” describes St. John’s work as
\npossessing “a distinctive, elegant, sensual voice. Like most poets,
\nhe writes about love and loss, but he manages to do so in a profound and
\nphilosophical way. Still, his humor and wit, his love of word play, are
\nalways present, too.”\n<\/p>\n
