The performance, set for 7:30 p.m., is free to the public.<\/p>\n
Among the evening’s repertoire will be a performance of “Lux Aeterna” conducted by guest composer K. Lee Scott, a renowned musician, teacher and composer best known for his church music. The Men’s Glee will premiere this five-movement work that is scored for men’s choir, piano, flute, cello and timpani, and the performance will be recorded for distribution through Hinshaw Music Publications.<\/p>\n
“Having the composer as conductor is a unique opportunity, especially when it is the premiere performance,” said Don Trott, UM associate professor of music and director of choral activities.<\/p>\n
Scott received two degrees in choral music from the University of Alabama and has published more than 300 compositions. He performs as a guest conductor across the United States, Canada and Africa.<\/p>\n
Katie Ashe, a graduate student in choral conducting, will conducting the Women’s Ensemble, and Debra Spurgeon, associate professor of music, will conduct the Women’s Glee.<\/p>\n
