\nAnn Atkinson\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
\nA
\nmarketing major in UM’s School of Business Administration and member of
\nthe Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College, she expects her study
\nabroad will enhance her chances for a global career. \n<\/p>\n
\n“I am
\nhoping to become fluent in French,” she said. “I would love to
\nhave a career in marketing or accounting where I get to use my language
\nskills, perhaps living in Europe.” \n<\/p>\n
\nShe’s also
\nracking up another impressive addition to her future resume: studying at
\nthe ISC Paris School of Management, a leading business school in the
\nheart of Paris. ISC is a new exchange partnership sponsored by the UM
\nStudy Abroad Office. Atkinson’s courses include Economics and Geopolitics
\nof the Luxury Industry and the Globalization of American Supremacy. She
\nis also taking intermediate French. \n<\/p>\n
\nBesides
\nearning academic credit, Atkinson is taking advantage of other
\nopportunities. \n<\/p>\n
\n“I hope to learn a lot about myself and about handling different
\ncultures,” she said. “I have already had major learning
\nexperiences adjusting to differences, such as a lack of air conditioning.
\n\n<\/p>\n
\n“Seriously, I think it will enhance my college education by
\nbroadening my perspective of the world and allowing me to form
\nrelationships with young people from many different countries.”
\n\n<\/p>\n
\nEager to
\nbegin her sojourn, Atkinson arrived in France three weeks ahead of
\nschedule to allow her to visit southern France and travel around Italy by
\ntrain to Florence, Rome and Cinque Terre. \n<\/p>\n
\n“I am
\nplanning on traveling as often as possible” she said. “A lot of
\nmy Ole Miss friends are in Europe as well, and a bunch of other study
\nabroad students were here recently for the weekend, and we all had a
\ngreat time together, going to cafes, shopping, even seeing a major
\nEuropean horse race.”\n<\/p>\n
\nAtkinson
\nis living in the middle of Paris near the Opera House, a major tourist
\nattraction. She shares residence with a Canadian student, who is also
\nstudying at the ISC, and a French couple. \n<\/p>\n
\n“All
\nof the international students in the ISC study abroad program are very
\nnice and interested to learn about the U.S.,” she said. “I’m
\nthe only American student at the school, so it’s sometimes overwhelming
\nbeing with so many Europeans – and Canadians.” \n<\/p>\n
\nAtkinson
\nadded that one somewhat daunting aspect of her experience has been her
\nclass schedule. “Classes are really long,” she said. “One
\nof them meets for six hours at a time and always on different days, so
\nit’s very difficult to make out a class schedule.”\n<\/p>\n
\nShe will
\nreturn to Ole Miss in mid-January in time for the spring semester, with
\nplans to possibly add accountancy as a second major. She is slated to
\ngraduate in 2011.\n<\/p>\n
\nA 2007
\ngraduate of St. Mary’s Episcopal School, Atkinson is the daughter of Mr.
\nand Mrs. E.W. Atkinson Jr. of Memphis. \n<\/p>\n
