\nParker Capps\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
\nA member
\nof UM’s Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College and Lott Leadership
\nInstitute, Capps is majoring in public policy leadership and civil
\nengineering. While the two fields may seem to be opposites, Capps said
\nshe is planning to broaden her perspective in both areas.\n<\/p>\n
\nHer study
\nabroad is made possible through an exchange partnership with UU
\ncoordinated by the UM Study Abroad Office. This exchange allows her to
\ntake courses abroad and apply them to her UM degree as resident credit at
\nthe same tuition cost of taking classes on the Oxford campus, plus she
\ncan also use financial aid that she receives on campus to help defray her
\nexpenses. While abroad, she is slated to complete three required liberal
\narts courses, and she is also looking forward to traveling and enhancing
\nher other interests.\n<\/p>\n
\n“I
\nwould like to see as much of Europe as possible, but I hope to really get
\nto know the cultures of Northern Ireland and Ireland,” she said.
\n“I will enjoy the experience of observing the political, cultural
\nand religious differences, and I’m also looking forward to seeing the
\nancient architecture as well as the modern.\n<\/p>\n
\n“I
\nhave visited the nearby cities of Belfast and Londonderry, and have plans
\nto go with my roommate to visit her family in England. I’ve also been
\ngetting to know the area around Portstewart, the town I live in. It is so
\nbeautiful here – sometimes I just can’t believe it.” \n<\/p>\n
\nCapps has
\ncompleted enough academic hours for senior status at Ole Miss, but with
\nextra coursework required to complete her double major, she plans to
\ngraduate in May 2012. \n<\/p>\n
\n“I am
\nreally considering going to law school after I graduate,” she said.
\n“Regardless, I plan to combine civil engineering and public policy
\nleadership in my future career.”\n<\/p>\n
\nAs for her
\ncollege experience so far, Capps said, “I am really enjoying my time
\nat Ole Miss and am very grateful for the incredible opportunities that
\nhave been offered to me here. After visiting several universities
\nthroughout the South, I wouldn’t have gone anywhere else.”\n<\/p>\n
\nActive in
\nstudent government, she served as the Honors College ASB senator during
\nher sophomore year. She was tapped for membership in the National Society
\nfor Collegiate Scholars and the national academic honor societies of
\nAlpha Lambda Delta, Lambda Sigma, Tau Beta Pi, Chi Epsilon, Phi Kappa Phi
\nand Sigma Alpha Lambda. \n<\/p>\n
\nA graduate
\nof Indianola Academy, Capps is the daughter of Billie Dove Parker of
\nSunflower.\n<\/p>\n
