Tyrone Roosevelt \u201cTye\u201d Hayden<\/p><\/div>\n

Though Tyrone Roosevelt \u201cTye\u201d Hayden just started his sophomore year, the Plantersville native said he feels certain that he has found his calling in general engineering.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reason I chose engineering is because I like to see the advancements in technology and how they affect our lives,\u201d Hayden said. \u201cMy time at the university has been great so far. Even through the ups and downs, the Ole Miss experience has been amazing!\u201d<\/p>\n

A 2009 graduate of Shannon High School, Hayden furthered his education at Itawamba Community College, where he earned his associate\u2019s degree in electrical technology and applied sciences. His cousin, former UM Hall of Famer and Associated Student Body president Artair Rogers (BA 10), and others influenced his decision to attend Ole Miss.<\/p>\n

\u201cI encouraged him to attend the university because the Ole Miss experience was remarkable,\u201d said Rogers, a graduate student at Georgetown University and employee at Georgetown University Hospital. \u201cI wanted Tye to have the Ole Miss experience as well. I know that Ole Miss will have a great impact on his life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hayden said Rogers\u2019 achievements at the university caused him to seek greatness as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cSeeing Artair involved in so many things and becoming so successful was an inspiration for me,\u201d Hayden said. \u201cHe made me feel that I can accomplish my dreams as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Like his renowned cousin before him, Hayden\u2019s skills and enthusiasm have begun to catch the attention of UM faculty and staff members.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is hungry to learn and determined to succeed,\u201d said Hank Ducey, administrative coordinator in the engineering school. \u201cHe has discovered the value of people skills and initiative, and is earnestly preparing for a career. Tye Hayden makes me proud to be a part of educating future engineers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though graduation is still a few years away, Hayden has begun to set his sights on a career path.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m also thinking about graduate school somewhere,\u201d Hayden said.<\/p>\n

Rogers, who has always had a great relationship with Hayden, said he has high expectations for his cousin.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember Tye in his \u2018Karate Kid\u2019 days. It’s amazing to reflect on the transition from Tye \u2018the Karate Kid\u2019 to Tye \u2018the engineer,\u2019” Rogers said. \u201cI am so proud of him, and I admire his drive, dedication and his faith.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hayden\u2019s memberships include the Ole Miss chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers and Rebels for Christ campus ministry. His extracurricular activities include exercising, reading and listening to music.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy favorite book is the Bible, but I also like Sports Illustrated<\/em>,\u201d Hayden said. \u201cAs far as music goes, I like R&B artists like Maxwell, Anthony Hamilton, Drake and Erykah Badu.\u201d<\/p>\n
