OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 Renowned pianist and University of Mississippi music faculty member Ian Hominick has a new CD, “Off the Beaten Path” (Albany Music), out this holiday season.<\/p>\n

The CD is available online just through Amazon.com and will be available in stores in late January or early February.<\/p>\n

“Off the Beaten Path” includes rarely heard selections by composers such as Muzio Clementi, Benjamin Godard and Ignaz Moscheles.\"Hominick_CD\"<\/p>\n

Hominick, whose technique was described as “enviable” by BBC Music Magazine, said he chose rarely heard repertoire for his CD because “audiences find it refreshing to experience music that is less often performed.”<\/p>\n

“The selections included in ‘Off the Beaten Path’ represent a sampling of music from various neglected composers or seldom played works by more familiar composers. I hope audiences enjoy it,” Hominick said.<\/p>\n

The Canadian- born Hominick began studying piano in Nova Scotia while attending Mt. Allison University. He continued his studies in the United States under acclaimed pianists Jerome Rose and Earl Wide and went on to earn a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Ohio State University in 1991.<\/p>\n

An active soloist, accompanist, adjudicator and teacher, Hominick has performed and conducted piano master classes across the United States, Canada and Italy. His performances have been broadcast both regionally and nationally on CBC Radio, Radio-Canada and National Public Radio in the United States. He is also a frequent guest for Chicago’s WFMT Radio program “Live from WFMT.”<\/p>\n

Hominick’s premiere solo recording of the works of the legendary romantic pianist Sigismund Thalberg was released by Titanic Records in 1995 to glowing reviews from critics and a nomination for “Best Classical Recording” in Canada’s East Coast Music Awards.<\/p>\n

Hominick joined the UM music faculty in 1999 and is director of the Piano Discoveries Summer Camp.<\/p>\n
