OXFORD, Miss. – Academy Award-winning actress-singer Shirley Jones – probably best known for her role as the matriarch on “The Partridge Family” television series – brings her extraordinary vocal talent to the University of Mississippi for a March 2 performance.
\n

\n“A Night at the Oscars” begins at 8 p.m. in the Gertrude Ford Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets range from $30 to $40 for various general seating, $10 to $15 for UM students and $20 to $25 for UM faculty enrolled in the Cultural Passport program.
\nTickets are available by calling 662-915-7411, by visiting the UM Box Office in the Student Union from noon to 4 p.m. weekdays or the Ford Center Box Office from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, or online at http:\/\/www.olemiss.edu\/depts\/<\/wbr>tickets\/order.htm<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Jones will perform some of her most memorable songs from the many movie musicals in which she starred, including “Music Man,” “Oklahoma” and “Carousel.” She will be accompanied by the Hollywood Concert Orchestra, an ensemble regarded as one of America’s finest.<\/p>\n

A Friends of the Ford Center reception follows the program.<\/p>\n

“Shirley Jones continues a career in television, film and on stage with her appearance at the Ford Center,” said Norman Easterbrook, Ford Center director. “Her performance is bound to be pleasing to anyone attending and will bring back memories of classic entertainment for many.”<\/p>\n

Though often typecast as a wholesome, kind character, Jones won a 1960 Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her portrayal of a prostitute in the film “Elmer Gantry.” Besides starring in “The Partridge Family,” she was a frequent guest star on such popular TV series as “Murder, She Wrote,” “The Love Boat,” “McMillan and Wife,” “Melrose Place,” “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch” and “The Drew Carey Show.” The two-time Emmy Award nominee also appeared in “There Were Times, Dear” and “Hidden Places.”
Jones’ most recent performance venues include a role in the Broadway revival of “42nd Street” and a reprisal of her role on “Carousel.” She also played Colleen Brady on the long-running NBC soap opera “Days of Our Lives.”<\/p>\n
