The 8 p.m. concert is to open with the Masquerade Suite of Armenian composer Aram Khatchaturian and also features Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 4 in D minor, which is written for an eclectic combination of wind and string instruments. Joshua Hall, a freshman music education major from Southaven, is slated to perform first movement of the Marimba Concerto by contemporary Brazilian composer Ney Rosauro, and Ben McLemore, a senior music education major from Corinth, is to play the last movement of Eugene Bozza’s Concertino for Saxophone and Orchestra.<\/p>\n
“We are very excited for the spring concert,” said Ron Vernon, UM professor of music and associate dean of liberal arts. “It’s something that only comes once a year, and the students’ interpretation of Schumann’s Symphony No. 4 should be very remarkable.”<\/p>\n
