An opening reception, sponsored by Lenora’s Restaurant, is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. March 23 at the museum, at Fifth Street and University Avenue. The exhibit runs through June 12. The museum’s regular hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free, but donations to special exhibitions are appreciated.<\/p>\n
“Amy Wilson’s work consists of small-scale watercolor drawings and books that have tiny, handwritten text incorporated in them,” said William Pittman Andrews, museum director. “Each work features an ever-changing cast of talkative girls. The figures that populate her paintings may be naive in appearance, but their conversations tackle large ideas such as society, politics and the environment.”<\/p>\n
The museum welcomes the opportunity to host Wilson in Mississippi, Andrews said.<\/p>\n
“The BravinLee Programs gallery (in the New York neighborhood of Chelsea), Hunterdon Museum and Bellwether Gallery are some of the variety of places where Amy Wilson’s work has been included in solo exhibitions,” he said. “She has also been included in group exhibitions at the Drawing Center, the Pera Museum in Istanbul, Josee Bienvenue Gallery and the GrolierClub.”<\/p>\n
Wilson received her bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the School of Visual Arts in New York and a master’s degree in fine arts from Yale University. She teaches drawing and art history at the School of Visual Arts. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n
