{"id":20369,"date":"2012-12-14T15:33:55","date_gmt":"2012-12-14T21:33:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.olemiss.edu\/?p=20369"},"modified":"2014-09-23T08:31:10","modified_gmt":"2014-09-23T13:31:10","slug":"national-rankings-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web20.olemiss.edu\/news\/wordpress\/national-rankings-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"National Rankings from 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Mississippi garnered many national accolades over the past year (listed in no particular order).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Top College Town<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/livability.com\/top-10\/top-10-college-towns-2012\/oxford\/ms\">Livability.com ranks Oxford No. 2<\/a> on its third annual listing of top college towns, praising the town\u2019s genteel atmosphere, cultural and social opportunities, and abundance of outdoor activities. Oxford was No. 9 on last year\u2019s list and this year ranks right behind College Station, Texas, home of new SEC member Texas A&amp;M.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Army ROTC honored<\/strong> &#8211; The Army ROTC program <a href=\"http:\/\/zing.olemiss.edu\/army-rotc-program-receives-prestigious-macarthur-award-as-national-recognitions-continue\/\">received one of eight prestigious MacArthur Awards in February 2012.<\/a> Presented by the U.S. Army Cadet Command and the Gen. Douglas MacArthur Foundation, the award recognizes the ideals of \u201cduty, honor and country\u201d as advocated by MacArthur.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best College Buy<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/web20.olemiss.edu\/news\/wordpress\/um-moves-up-in-forbes-listing-of-nations-20-best-college-buys\/#.UMuTo4VT0Vk\">Ole Miss is No. 18 on Forbes\u2019 \u201cBest Value Colleges,\u201d<\/a> part of the annual America\u2019s Top Colleges section. It is the only SEC school to make the Top 20 list.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Community Service<\/strong> &#8211; For its life-changing work in 12 Delta communities, <a href=\"http:\/\/zing.olemiss.edu\/um-school-of-pharmacy-honored-for-transformative-community-service\/\">the UM School of Pharmacy won the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy\u2019s 2011-12 Lawrence C. Weaver Transformative Community Service Award<\/a>. AACP presents the award annually to one pharmacy school that not only demonstrates a major commitment to addressing unmet community needs through education, practice and research but also serves as an example of social responsiveness for others.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tailgater&#8217;s Paradise<\/strong> &#8211; Ole Miss continued to be the premiere destination for college tailgating as<a href=\"http:\/\/thedailysouth.southernliving.com\/2012\/10\/09\/souths-best-tailgate\/\"> the Grove claimed second place in Southern Living&#8217;s &#8220;South&#8217;s Best Tailgate&#8221; contest.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Great College to Work For<\/strong> &#8211; For the fourth year in a row, <a href=\"http:\/\/web20.olemiss.edu\/news\/wordpress\/university-of-mississippi-named-great-college-to-work-for-fourth-consecutive-year\/#.UMuVW4VT0Vk\"><em>The Chronicle of Higher Education<\/em> named the University of Mississippi as one of the \u201c2012 Great Colleges to Work For,\u201d<\/a> putting the institution in elite company. The results, released in The Chronicle\u2019s fifth annual report on The Academic Workplace, are based on a survey of more than 46,000 employees at 294 colleges and universities.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0<strong>International Award &#8211;<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/web20.olemiss.edu\/news\/wordpress\/winter-institute-receives-international-award-for-globally-promoting-civil-human-rights\/#.UMuV24VT0Vk\">The William Winter Institute for Racial Reconciliation at the University of Mississippi was honored by the International Association of Official Human Rights Agencies<\/a> with its 2012 International Award. The accolade from the nonprofit organization devoted to promoting civil and human rights around the world was presented in New Orleans. The Winter Institute\u2019s international efforts have been connected to supporting its work in Mississippi.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fiske Guide to Colleges &#8211; <\/strong>\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=2&amp;ved=0CDwQFjAB&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fzing.olemiss.edu%2Funiversity-featured-in-fiske-guide-to-colleges-2012%2F&amp;ei=e5bLUIu5FIrK9gTK0IGQCg&amp;usg=AFQjCNGzPilpQx37-nRjshX_HR9b871CHQ&amp;sig2=Pbr0lR3arSVCSUO8GCcftg&amp;bvm=bv.1355325884,d.eWU\">The University of Mississippi was included in \u201cFiske Guide to Colleges 2012\u2033<\/a> (2011, Sourcebooks) featuring more than 300 of the best and most interesting colleges and universities in three nations. UM is the only Mississippi institution included in the publication. Look for the university in the 2013 issue as well.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Campus Safety: <\/strong>In 2012, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.collegesafe.com\/index.php\/safety-rankings\/top-ten-safest-colleges-and-universities\">the Ole Miss campus was ranked safest in the SEC and in the top 10 nationally by CollegeSafe.com<\/a>, which notes that, &#8220;The school works hard to integrate campus police officers in with students and allows Greek organizations to Adopt-a-Cop into their fraternity and sorority house to spend time talking with kids about safety issues.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Business First<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prweb.com\/releases\/2012\/2\/prweb9193961.htm\">U.S. News &amp; World Report ranks the Professional MBA program<\/a> at the UM School of Business Administration as one of the top 14 in the nation. The PMBA program is geared toward the working business person and it typically takes two to four years to earn a degree.<strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Accounting Excellence<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/zing.olemiss.edu\/ums-undergraduate-accountancy-program-moves-into-nations-top-10-in-latest-rankings\/\">The university&#8217;s Patterson School of Accountancy is ranked No. 10 in the nation<\/a> \u2013 atop all other SEC programs \u2013 for undergraduate education by the Public Accounting Report.
