OXFORD,
\nMiss. – Three graduates of the University of Mississippi School of
\nPharmacy have been honored by the school for their career
\naccomplishments and professional service.<\/p>\n

George Burdock of
\nOrlando, Fla., Clarence DuBose of Moss Point and David Gregory of
\nNashville, Tenn., were named 2009 Distinguished Alumni of the Year
\nduring Pharmacy Alumni Weekend (March 6-7) in Oxford. Selection is
\nbased on professional accomplishments and service to the pharmacy
\nschool, including its students, faculty, staff and alumni.<\/p>\n

“These
\nthree extraordinary alumni committed their lives to improving health
\nand well being, each in his own way,” said Barbara G. Wells, pharmacy
\ndean. “In addition, because of their hard work and leadership, their
\ndisciplines and their communities are advanced. Their example is an
\ninspiration to faculty and students alike, and they show our students
\nwhat can be accomplished with good preparation, hard work, dedication
\nand creativity.”<\/p>\n


Burdock is founder and president of the Burdock Group, a toxicology consulting firm. He is an internationally recognized authority on the safety of food ingredients, personal care products and dietary supplements. He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology, master’s in physiology and biochemistry, and doctorate in toxicology, all from UM.<\/p>\n

He is a diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology and fellow of the American College of Nutrition. A leader in his field, he served as vice president of the Food Safety Section of the Society of Toxicology and as president of the International Society of Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology.<\/p>\n

A 1975 graduate of the pharmacy school, DuBose is founder of Medi-Mart Pharmacy and We Care Hospice. We Care Hospice provides care for the terminally ill in their homes, as well as in a modern inpatient hospice facility with a 24-bed capacity.<\/p>\n

A two-time president of the Magnolia Pharmaceutical Society, he is a member of the school’s Galen Order, Mississippi Pharmacists Association and a life member of the National Pharmaceutical Association. In 2002, MPhA honored DuBose with the Innovative Pharmacy Practice Award. He has provided extraordinary leadership within his profession and his community.<\/p>\n

Gregory is director of education, research and clinical pharmacy services in the Department of Pharmaceutical Services at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He received a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy in 1984 and doctor of pharmacy in 1999, both from UM. He is a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist, health care management specialist and a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.<\/p>\n

He is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Committee and a clinical educator for three pharmacy schools. In 1997, he was named Vanderbilt Hospital Pharmacist of the Year, and he received the Vanderbilt Pathfinder Award for his work with the Pediatric Asthma Center.<\/p>\n
