OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 John P. Bentley, associate professor of pharmacy
\nadministration at the University of Mississippi, has been named a
\nfellow of the American Pharmacists Association. He was recognized
\nduring the organization’s annual meeting last weekend in San Antonio,
\nTexas.
\n
<\/p>\n

\nA fellow is a member of either the APhA Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management or the APhA Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science, with a minimum of 10 years professional experience. They must demonstrate progressive, exemplary service and achievements in their professional area and through service in APhA academies and other national, state and local professional organizations.\n<\/p>\n

“Being named a fellow of the American Pharmacists Association is a great honor which appropriately recognizes Dr. Bentley’s many accomplishments,” said pharmacy Dean Barbara G. Wells. “I am extremely proud of his academic and scholarly achievements which are exemplary. Dr. Bentley is a ‘complete’ faculty member in the sense that he is deeply committed to the teaching, research and service missions. He is ever mindful of the needs and welfare of students and unwavering in his determination to enhance his abilities to serve and lead.” <\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\nBentley, also an associate research professor in the UM Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, was named a School of Pharmacy Thelma H. Cerniglia Distinguished Teaching Scholar in 2008 for the second time. During 2007-08, he took a sabbatical while enrolled in a graduate program in biostatistics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.\n<\/p>\n

\nHis teaching in the professional pharmacy curriculum focuses on the organization, delivery, financing and outcomes of health care, and he teaches applied statistics courses at the graduate level. His research focuses on understanding how medications and the medication consumption experience affect quality of life.\n<\/p>\n
