OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 Thanks to one of the most active fan bases in social media, the University of Mississippi is nominated for a prestigious Shorty Award, an annual accolade honoring the best in social media. But don\u2019t quiet down now \u2013 Ole Miss needs your vote to advance to the finals. <\/strong><\/p>\n

From former Rebel Brittney Reese\u2019s gold medal-winning performance in the Olympics to Ole Miss\u2019 victory over Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl, sharing across all social media outlets reached an all-time high in 2012.<\/p>\n

The activity didn\u2019t go unnoticed. The official Ole Miss Pinterest page received multiple mentions in online publications and was ranked among the top college pages in the nation in September. In addition, the Ole Miss Facebook page ranked as one of the most engaging pages for the institution\u2019s size over the summer.<\/p>\n

Ole Miss is nominated in the Barnes & Noble College category (#bncollege), which was created for the nearly 700 colleges nationwide with Barnes & Noble campus stores. To vote for Ole Miss, click here<\/a> or tweet from your account:<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong>Voting ends Feb. 10, 2013.<\/p>\n

The top six institutions of higher education with the most votes will be judged by the Real-Time Academy of Short Form Arts & Sciences, which includes actor Charlie Sheen, \u201cAmerica\u2019s Got Talent\u201d host Nick Cannon and entertainer MC Hammer. Finalists will be evaluated based on activity across all social networks.<\/p>\n

According to the Shorty Awards website, the #BNCollege award winner will be the college \u201cthat most effectively uses social media to drive campus engagement with students, faculty and the entire campus community while, most importantly, celebrating the school\u2019s authentic spirit and attitude.\u201d<\/p>\n
