OXFORD, Miss. – A student team from the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy has placed in the Top 10 in the national clinical skills competition at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists’ midyear clinical meeting.
The competition was Dec. 6 in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n
\nFourth-professional-year students Travis King of Lexington and Wes Pierce of Madison, Ala., competed amongst a record 102 pharmacy school teams at the meeting. During the competition, teams demonstrated their skills by assessing patient-specific information and current therapy, identifying and prioritizing drug therapy problems, identifying treatment goals and recommending a pharmacist’s care plan.<\/p>\n
“This was a truly outstanding performance by these two very bright and competitive students,” said Barbara G. Wells, dean of the pharmacy school. “Wes and Travis worked very hard to prepare themselves for the competition. Their success brings national attention to their clinical knowledge and skills and also brings honor to their school. These two young men have a very bright future ahead in pharmacy.”<\/p>\n
