{"id":24534,"date":"2013-02-17T17:25:57","date_gmt":"2013-02-17T23:25:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.olemiss.edu\/?p=24534"},"modified":"2014-09-23T08:29:33","modified_gmt":"2014-09-23T13:29:33","slug":"womens-tennis-downs-washington-6-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web20.olemiss.edu\/news\/wordpress\/womens-tennis-downs-washington-6-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Women&#8217;s Tennis Downs Washington 6-1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Freshman Mai El Kamash Clinches Win<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>OXFORD, Miss.<\/strong> \u2013 The No. 26 ranked Ole Miss women\u2019s tennis team bounced back from a disappointing loss on Friday to down No. 39 ranked Washington 6-1 here Sunday at the Palmer\/Salloum Tennis Center.<\/p>\n<p>With the win, the Rebels improved to 2-3 on the season, while Washington dropped to 6-3.\u00a0 The Rebels took the opening doubles point and then secured singles wins from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.olemisssports.com\/sports\/w-tennis\/mtt\/erin_stephens_771764.html\">Erin Stephens<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.olemisssports.com\/sports\/w-tennis\/mtt\/julia_jones_771761.html\">Julia Jones<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.olemisssports.com\/sports\/w-tennis\/mtt\/mai_el_kamash_834239.html\">Mai El Kamash<\/a> to even the series with the Dawgs 1-1.<\/p>\n<p>The Rebels had been struggling to win the doubles, with all new teams and without the services of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.olemisssports.com\/sports\/w-tennis\/mtt\/iris_verboven_771766.html\">Iris Verboven<\/a>.\u00a0 Coach Beyers elected to change up the teams some on Sunday, and it worked.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.olemisssports.com\/sports\/w-tennis\/mtt\/vief_vlaar_815666.html\">Vief Vlaar<\/a> and El Kamash teamed up to post an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles and then the one constant in doubles, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.olemisssports.com\/sports\/w-tennis\/mtt\/caroline_rohde_moe_739987.html\">Caroline Rohde-Moe<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.olemisssports.com\/sports\/w-tennis\/mtt\/marija_milutinovic_814499.html\">Marija Milutinovic<\/a>, ranked No. 39 in the nation, clinched the point 8-5 at No. 1.\u00a0 They are now 5-0 in dual matches, 3-0 at No. 1 doubles.<\/p>\n<p>Each team then won three first sets in singles.\u00a0 In the three matches where Ole Miss won the first sets, they were able to close out in straight sets.<\/p>\n<p>In another switch, Coach Beyers moved Stephens down to No. 4 and Jones to No. 3.\u00a0 Stephens won her first set against UW\u2019s Julija Lukac 6-4 and then dominated the second 6-0 to put the Rebels up 2-0.\u00a0 Jones followed up with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Elianne Douglas-Miron at No. 3 singles to increase it to 3-0.<\/p>\n<p>Washington got on the board, when Natali Coronel finished off Milutinovic 6-4, 6-2 on court five.<\/p>\n<p>With the Dawgs having won the first sets on one and six El Kamash put the matter to rest with her 7-6(2), 6-3 win over Andjela Nemcevic at No. 2 singles to clinch the victory.<\/p>\n<p>Rohde-Moe and Vlaar finished off the match both taking their matches in third set supertiebreakers for the final 6-1 score.<\/p>\n<p>The Rebels return to the courts Saturday, Feb. 23 to host No. 16 Virginia at Noon.\u00a0 Fans will have a chance to win a tennis racket.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Freshman Mai El Kamash Clinches Win OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 The No. 26 ranked Ole Miss women\u2019s tennis team bounced back from a disappointing loss on Friday to down No. 39 ranked Washington 6-1 here Sunday at the Palmer\/Salloum Tennis Center.
