OXFORD, Miss. – University of Mississippi students look
\nforward to a variety of events during Welcome Week, Aug.
\n18-25.<\/span>
\n

Students can settle into their residence halls Saturday
\n(Aug. 18) during Move-in Day, sponsored by the Department
\nof Housing and Residence Life. Classes start Monday, Aug.
\n20.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\nTo begin move-in, students should report to the old
\nWal-Mart site (in the Oxford Mall on West Jackson Avenue)
\nto check in and receive their residence hall room keys.
\nThey also can pick up carpet and sign up for
\ntelecommunication services.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“Move-in is only one day this year, so we will be extra
\nbusy, but will have lots of help with over 800 community
\nand university volunteers registered to help. Volunteers
\nwill be there to give out keys, work water stations and
\nhelp families unload and move belongings to student rooms,”
\nsaid Bonnie Reid, assistant director for marketing services
\nof student housing. For check-in hours and more

\nThe Office of Financial Aid and the Office of the Bursar
\nare scheduled to be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Move-in
\nDay. These special hours offer students moving in and their
\nparents an opportunity to conduct business with those
\noffices.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nAfter settling in, students can take advantage of Welcome
\nWeek entertainment, sponsored by the Student Programming
\nBoard and Campus Programming, as well as other
\norganizations.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“Welcome Week is a wonderful chance for our students to see
\nall of the different services and activities that the
\nDepartment of Campus Programming and Student Programming
\nBoard sponsor throughout the year,” said Jennifer Taylor,
\ndirector of Campus Programming.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nWelcome Week events, which are all free, begin at 7:30 p.m.
\nSunday when students meet resident assistants in the
\nresidence halls, followed by an 8:30 p.m. showing of
\n“Spiderman III” on the Grove stage, with free popcorn and
\ndrinks.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nOther activities include rock wall climbing, trivia, poster
\nand T-shirt sales, and a community service agency fair.
\nUnion Unplugged entertainment is set for 12:15 p.m. Tuesday
\nand Thursday, and screenings of the movie “Shrek III”are
\nscheduled at 7 p.m and 9:30 p.m. Friday night at the Turner
\nCenter.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe annual Walk with the Chancellor is set for 7 a.m.
\nWednesday beginning on the front steps of the Lyceum.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe first week of classes concludes Saturday, Aug. 25. That
\nmorning also offers the opportunity for students to
\nparticipate in UMSFUSION, an annual service day to promote
\nthe concept of service-learning and civic responsibility.
\nStudents will be welcomed by the vice chancellor for
\nstudent life before heading to various local sites to
\nparticipate in service projects.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe Rumble in the Grove concert Saturday (Aug. 25) is
\nscheduled from 5:30 p.m. to midnight and includes
\nperformances by Eric Church, Ingram Hill, Drew Holcomb and
\nYoni.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“We are excited to have such a diverse lineup this year.
\nRumble in the Grove should be entertaining for fans of all
\nmusical genres,” said Bradley Baker, program coordinator
\nfor Campus Programming.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
