Bailey, Broome Represent Ole Miss As Brad Davis SEC Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarships<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 Rebel baseball and softball players Tanner Bailey and Brittany Broome have been nominated for the Brad Davis Southeastern Conference Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship, the league office announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Twenty-eight SEC student-athletes \u2013 one male and one female from each of the SEC\u2019s 14 institutions – were nominated for the scholarship.<\/p>\n

The overall recipients of the Brad Davis SEC Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship will be released on April 4. The Davis Award recipients each receive a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship, provided by the SEC. The 26 remaining male and female finalists for the award will also receive a $5,000 post-graduate scholarship.<\/p>\n

The SEC Community Service Award is named for Brad Davis, who succumbed to cancer on March 2, 2006. He had been a member of the SEC staff since 1988, first serving as an assistant commissioner until 1994 when he was promoted to associate commissioner.<\/p>\n

The award recipients are chosen by a committee of Faculty Athletics Representatives from the 14 SEC institutions and are honored at the SEC Spring Meetings in Sandestin, Fla., on May 30.<\/p>\n

Last year\u2019s Davis Award recipients were LSU\u2019s Cullen Doody and Alabama\u2019s Leigh Gilmore, both cross country and track & field student-athletes.<\/p>\n

Highlights of the Rebels\u2019 nominees include:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Tanner Bailey, Baseball<\/strong> (Male Davis Community Service Nominee)<\/p>\n

\u2022 Expected to graduate in May 2013 with a B.A. degree in business management.<\/p>\n

\u2022 A member of the Chancellor\u2019s Honor Roll, Dean\u2019s Honor Roll and UMAA Honor Roll.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Read to local elementary school children through the Reading with the Rebels program. Coordinated registration for the Dash for Hash 5K run, providing directions and walking with children during the run.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Volunteered at the Briarwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Summer Center, spending time with and entertaining residents.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Has participated in various baseball clinics, providing lessons and instruction to youth.<\/p>\n

\u2022 A native of Little Rock, Ark., he is the son of Rodney Bailey and Tracy Springer.<\/p>\n

Brittany Broome, Softball<\/strong> (Female Davis Community Service Nominee)<\/p>\n

\u2022 Expected to earn a B.A. in elementary education with concentrations in English and social studies in May 2013.<\/p>\n

\u2022 A member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, named to both the Dean\u2019s List Honor Roll and the Chancellor\u2019s Honor Roll, and a nominee for the Lowe\u2019s Senior CLASS Award. Is the president of the Ole Miss Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Participated in More Than A Meal, organizing meals for families in need, serving food to families and tutored students.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Visited with terminally ill cancer patients at St. Jude Hospital.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Volunteered with local youth softball teams and free community sports clinics, raised money for Tuscaloosa tornado relief efforts, helped deliver Thanksgiving meals to needy families and participated in Rebel Reruns.<\/p>\n
