\ntreatment of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

\nBledsoe, president of UM’s chapter of the National Student
\nSpeech-Language-Hearing Association.

\nalso director of UM’s Center for Speec h and Hearing
\nResearch and an adjunct clinical associate professor at the
\nUniversity of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

\nPatrick Rydell, owner and director of the Rocky Mountain
\nAutism Center in Lakewood, Colo. With 26 years of
\nexperience working with ASD, Rydell has co-authored five
\nbook chapters and numerous research articles on autism and
\nunconventional verbal behaviors.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
\nCommunication, Emotional Regulation and Transactional
\nSupport approach to the challenges and learning styles of
\nchildren with ASD, and we are pleased to have him teach
\nstudents and professionals during the institute,” Higdon
\nsaid.

\nHall hosted by UM Vice Chancellor Gloria Kellum, a faculty
\nmember in the department.

\nChadwick and Susan McPhail are to discuss issues related to
\nautism and answer questions from the audience. Boyd, an
\nattorney, is the mother of a son with high-functioning
\nautism and has devoted much of her time to her son’s
\ntherapy, autism advocacy issues and providing volunteer
\nlegal assistance to families dealing with autism. Moore, a
\nspeech-language pathologist at Baptist Rehabilitation in
\nOxford, is the parent of a preschool child with autism.
\nChadwick, director of the North Mississippi Regional
\nCenter’s Technology Assistive Device Center and a licensed
\nspeech\/language pathologist, has integrated augmentative
\ncommunication, language and learning for children with
\nautism. McPhail is a special education teacher at NMRC and
\nthe mother of a 20-year-old with autism.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
\nGov. Haley Barbour’s Autism Task Force, which has been
\ncharged with recommending a plan by the end of the year to
\naddress the needs of individuals with ASD.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nin the Jackson area, the second was in Oxford and the third
\nwill be Sept. 15 in Hattiesburg. The response from the
\nprofessional and consumer community has been overwhelming,
\nshowing the task force that training and services for
\nindividuals with ASD should be a high priority.”
