\nmembers’ athletics operations by throwing them open to the
\nrest of the university community and to the public.
\nInstitutions involved in the program benefit by increasing
\ncampuswide awareness and knowledge of their athletics
\nprograms, confirming their strengths and developing plans
\nto improve areas of concern.

\nchancellor for planning and operations; and various members
\nof UM’s faculty, staff and student body; as well as
\nathletics department personnel. A member of the NCAA
\nmembership conducted a one-day orientation videoconference
\nThursday (Sept. 13) with the committee and its
\nsubcommittees.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
\nprogram has standards, called operating principles, which
\nwere adopted by the association to place a “measuring
\nstick” by which all Division I members are evaluated.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
\nreviewers is to conduct an evaluation visit on the campus.
\nThe reviewers will be from other colleges and universities,
\nor conference offices.

\nintercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the
\neducation program and the athlete as an integral part of
\nthe student body. Activities of the NCAA membership include
\nformulating rules of play for NCAA sports, conducting
\nnational championships, adopting and enforcing standards of
\neligibility, and studying all phases of intercollegiate
\nathletics.
