\nOXFORD, Miss. – Respected broadcaster and Court TV newsman
\nJack Ford is slated to speak on how the media and legal
\npractice are influenced by high profile cases Friday (Sept.
\n21) at the University of Mississippi School of Law.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\nFord, a co-host on the daily TV trial program “Banfield &
\nFord: Courtside” with fellow news veteran Ashleigh
\nBanfield, speaks at 1:30 p.m. in the William Ethridge Jr.
\nMoot Court Room in the Lamar Law Center. The title of his
\naddress is “High Profile Cases and their Impact on the
\nLegal Profession and the Media.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n\nFormerly, Ford hosted the ESPN show “The Sports Reporters
\nII” for one year and later co-hosted the nationally
\nsyndicated talk show “Ali & Jack.” His broadcast career
\nbegan in 1984 at New York’s WCBS-TV as the legal
\ncommentator, and he became one of Court TV’s first anchors
\nfrom 1991 to 1994. Afterward, he worked as an NBC News
\nchief legal correspondent appearing on “NBC Nightly News,”
\n“The Today Show” and “Dateline,” in addition to serving as
\nco-anchor for “The Weekend Today Show.” In 1999, Ford
\nbecame an ABC anchor\/correspondent for “Good Morning
\nAmerica” and “20\/20.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n\nLaw Dean Samuel M. Davis said Ford is uniquely qualified to
\ntalk about high profile cases.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n\n“As a former prosecutor and attorney in private practice,
\nhe was involved in several high profile cases, and as an
\nanchor on Court TV and a former anchor on other networks,
\nincluding the Weekend Today Show,’ he makes a thoughtful,
\ndynamic and informative presentation,” Davis said. “He was
\nan instant hit when he spoke to our law students a few
\nyears ago, and I am sure our current students will be
\nequally impressed with his charm and presence.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n\nBefore his career in broadcast journalism, Ford studied at
\nYale University and later attended Fordham University
\nSchool of Law. His knowledge of legal work stems from his
\nthree years of experience as a New Jersey prosecutor and
\nhis later entrance into private practice. He taught as an
\nadjunct professor of law at Fordham and authored articles
\nfor a range of legal publications.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n\nFord’s exceptional broadcast work has been honored with two
\nEmmy Awards, a Peabody Award, an American Radio and
\nTelevision Award, the National Headliner Award and the
\nMarch of Dimes FDR Award. In 1997, he received the NCAA
\nSilver Anniversary Award, and People magazine recognized
\nhim as the “Sexiest News Anchor” in 1999.
