\nLott Institute’s leadership camp for ninth-graders.

\nAcademy for junior high gifted students, and because of the
\ninterest, we’re adding another academy next year,” said
\nJason Wilkins, director of Summer Academy, Division of
\nOutreach and Continuing Education.
\n“The academy is popular because it offers electives, such
\nas botany, environmental science, creative writing and
\npsychology, not offered by some smaller schools.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
\nninth-graders through the Lott Institute and we’re planning
\nto start one for eighth-graders.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
\nnearly 50 filmmakers and scriptwriters, 150 Faulkner
\nConference attendees and more than 250 Southern teachers
\nparticipating in advanced placement institutes or weeklong
\nteacher workshops.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
\nsaid Don Howie, director of Summer School for Outreach. “In
\nfact, the English-related workshops were so full we had to
\nturn some teachers away. The algebra workshops were full,
\ntoo.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
\nMary Leech, grant writer and special projects coordinator
\nfor outreach, said the program also attracted teachers from
\nother states.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
\nMississippi, Louisiana and Tennessee. We also had college
\nboard-endorsed teaching consultants from Georgia, Florida
\nand North Carolina to attend our workshops,” Leech said.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
\nand in Oxford experienced a boom. Howie said that fewer
\nthan a dozen teacher participants stayed in campus
\nresidence halls, while the others opted to lodge at The Inn
\nat Ole Miss or at other Oxford-based hotels. Student
\ncampers were housed in campus residence halls.
