Kai Fong Lee and his wife, Alice<\/p><\/div>\n

OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 Kai Fong Lee has not been resting on his laurels since retiring as a professor of electrical engineering at the University of Mississippi two years ago.<\/p>\n

After relocating with his wife, Alice, to San Jose, Calif., the dean emeritus keeps a full itinerary, alternately dividing his time between presenting at professional workshops and conferences and traveling the globe.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been enjoying life immensely since retirement,\u201d Lee said. \u201cWe have many friends and relatives in the San Francisco Bay area.\u00a0 Both the weather and the surrounding scenery are gorgeous.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Lees have visited Yosemite National Park<\/a> and plenty of cultural events such as concerts, theater and operas.\u00a0\u00a0 Their routine consists of long walks, occasional hiking in the nearby hills, reading, listening to music (both live and online) and spending time with their daughter and her family.\u00a0 The couple has visited their two sons (both married) in Boston several times, as well as relatives in Los Angeles and San Diego.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur happiest moment was Aug. 7, 2012, when our granddaughter, Stephanie Ko, was born,\u201d Lee said. \u201cStephanie\u2019s mother, Amy, lives with her husband, Tony, about 8 miles from our home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still active professionally, Lee gave short courses on antenna design at City University of Hong Kong in October 2011 and at National University of Singapore in April 2012.<\/p>\n

\u201cI recently came back from a two-week stay as a visiting professor at the City University of Hong Kong,\u201d he said. \u201cOn July 26, I gave a distinguished lecture entitled, \u2018What I learned about leadership \u2013 reflections of an engineering educator,\u2019 to the students and faculty of the Department of Electronic Engineering there. It was very well-received and generated much interest.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lee also served as co-chair of the awards committee at the 2013 International Electronic and Electrical Engineering International Workshop on Electromagnetics, held Aug. 1-3 in Hong Kong. He was one of two guest editors of the July 2012 special issue of the IEEE Proceedings entitled, \u2018Antennas in Wireless Communications\u2019. This was one of the 12 special issues celebrating the 100th year of the proceedings.<\/p>\n
