{"id":30496,"date":"2013-08-13T08:29:49","date_gmt":"2013-08-13T13:29:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.olemiss.edu\/?p=30496"},"modified":"2014-09-23T08:28:07","modified_gmt":"2014-09-23T13:28:07","slug":"mississippi-business-journal-ole-miss-launches-new-lawengineering-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web20.olemiss.edu\/news\/wordpress\/mississippi-business-journal-ole-miss-launches-new-lawengineering-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Mississippi Business Journal: Ole Miss launches new law\/engineering program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OXFORD, Miss. \u2014 Following a national trend to make higher education more \u201cuser-friendly,\u201d the University of Mississippi schools of Engineering and Law have joined forces to create a new program that provides early admission to the latter.<\/p>\n<p>Through the accelerated law program, students in the general engineering pre-law program can be admitted into a fast-tracked Bachelor of Engineering and law degree program. Juniors who have maintained a 3.6 grade-point average and passed the LSAT with a minimum score of 160 can be admitted early to law school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf they are admitted to the program, in their engineering senior year they are simultaneously the first-year law students and will be taking the first-year law courses,\u201d said Alex Cheng, dean of the engineering school. \u201cAt the end of four years, students are granted a B.E. degree. In another two years, they earn a law degree.
