\nOXFORD, Miss. – Described as “nothing short of stunning” by
\nGramophone magazine, the Academy of St. Martin in the
\nFields Chamber Ensemble makes its first visit to the
\nGertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts Tuesday
\n(Oct. 9). Norm Easterbrook, center director, said the
\nensemble’s performance is sure to please the most
\ndiscerning of classical music aficionados.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nPart of the 70-year-old Artist Series at the University of
\nMississippi, the concert begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $27,
\n$24 and $12 for various seating and available at the UM Box
\nOffice in the Ole Miss Student Union or by calling
\n662-915-7411.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nFormed in 1959 by 11 enthusiastic musicians as the Academy
\nof St. Martin in the Fields, the group’s first three
\nrecordings led to its quickly becoming one of the most
\nrecorded chamber ensembles in history. In 1967, the group
\nwas renamed the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Chamber
\nEnsemble to reflect its expanded repertoire and desire to
\nperform larger chamber works.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe Artist Series continues at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, with
\nthe UM Concert Singers and choirs from Rust College and
\nDelta State University, plus the full Mississippi Symphony
\nOrchestra performing a tribute to American composer William
\nGrant Still.
