\nOXFORD, Miss. – Families can learn how to preserve
\ncherished keepsakes – from photographs and paper documents
\nto sound recordings and home movies – in a free, public
\nworkshop Friday (Oct. 5) at the University of Mississippi.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nHeld to celebrate Archives Month, “Preserving Your Family
\nMemories” is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. in the J.D.
\nWilliams Library’s Department of Archives and Special
\nCollections, located on the third floor.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nParticipants are encouraged to bring materials for the
\narchivists to evaluate. Feel free to bring a brown bag
\nlunch, as well, said Greg Johnson, blues curator and
\nassistant professor.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“Every year, more and more family photo albums, home
\nmovies, and scrapbooks are lost due to improper storage
\nconditions,” Johnson said. “Rampant mold growth, vinegar
\nsyndrome and other damaging conditions can be avoided by
\ntaking several easy steps in caring for our family
\nmemories. Come find out how.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nMembers of the department plan to speak briefly about
\npreservation issues, then answer questions from the
\naudience.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nCo-sponsoring the workshop with the library are the Society
\nof Mississippi Archivists and the Department of Archives
\nand History.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
