OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 “Recollecting: 1980-2012,” works by Ron Dale, is on display at the University Museum through Jan. 11.<\/p>\n

The exhibit showcases the Oxford artist\u2019s works in ceramics and mixed media from a career spanning more than two decades, and coincides with a celebration of pottery talent from artists across north Mississippi.<\/p>\n

“Ron is a leading figure in contemporary American ceramics arts. We have watched with growing awe as he has installed these intelligent, playful and dramatic works,\u201d said Robert Saarnio, museum director. \u201cWe encourage our entire community to help us celebrate his career by coming to view the exhibition.\u201d<\/p>\n

Growing up in Asheville, N.C., Dale credits the annual exhibitions of the Southern Highlands Handicraft Guild for sparking his interest in ceramics.\u00a0 He obtained his B.A. at Goddard College and his M.F.A. at Louisiana State University. \u00a0He taught at Ole Miss from 1980 until his retirement as emeritus professor of art in 2005. He owns and runs Irondale Studio, which was built in 1995.<\/p>\n

To enhance the exhibition, Dale will conduct an Artist\u2019s Lecture on Tuesday, Sept. 17, from noon to 1 p.m. at the museum. He will also take part in the museum\u2019s annual membership party on Thursday, Oct. 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the museum.<\/p>\n

Complementing Dale\u2019s exhibit is \u201cNew Fired Art: North Mississippi Master Potters\u201d at the Bozarts Gallery<\/a> in Water Valley. This show runs through Oct. 12, with a reception scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21, from 5 to 9 p.m.\u00a0 These events are free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

The University Museum<\/a> is located at the intersection of University Avenue and Fifth Street in Oxford. Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. General admission to this special exhibition is $5, admission for seniors (62+) is $4, and admission for students (ages 6-17) is $3.\u00a0 Admission is free for UM students, UM Museum members and children under the age of 5.
