OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 Four University of Mississippi faculty members are among 49 selected from schools representing the Southeastern Conference as SEC Academic Leadership Development Program fellows.<\/p>\n
UM faculty selected as ALDP fellows are William W. Berry III, assistant professor of law; John C. Garner III, interim chair of the Department of Health, Exercise Science and Recreation Management; Ethel Young-Minor, associate professor of English and African-American studies and senior fellow at the Luckyday Residential College; and Charlotte Fant Pegues, assistant provost, registrar and assistant professor of leadership and counselor education.<\/p>\n
“The individuals selected by their SEC universities to participate in the SEC Academic Leadership Development Program represent the future of higher education administration,” said Torie Johnson, executive director of the SEC’s academic initiative, known as SECU. “The leadership skills they already possess are sure to be enhanced by the SEC ALDP experience.”<\/p>\n
The ALDP is a professional development program that prepares academic leaders for roles within their universities, promotes higher education programs and gives the administration opportunities to address challenges faced in the academic world. The program has two components: a university-level development program designed by each institution for its own participants and a pair of three-day, SEC-wide workshops conducted on specified campuses for all program participants.<\/p>\n
The fellows will attend workshops Oct. 14-16 at the University of Georgia and Feb. 5-7 at the University of South Carolina.<\/p>\n
The SEC ALDP, established in 2008, promotes collaborative higher education programs and activities involving administrators, faculty and students at its member universities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
