\nOXFORD, Miss. – The funeral for University of Mississippi
\ntrack star Rodney Lydale Lockhart is set for 2:30 p.m.
\nSaturday at the J.Z. George High School gymnasium in
\nCarrollton.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nVisitation is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Sanders &
\nSanders Funeral Home at 600 Church Street in Winona.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nLockhart, 20, a junior psychology major from Vaiden, was
\nfound dead Saturday (Sept. 29) morning at his Taylor Pointe
\napartment in Oxford. He had been shot, and his death is
\nbeing investigated as a homicide by the Oxford Police
\nDepartment and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nOle Miss track athletes and their coaches, who are still
\nhaving difficulty coping with Lockhart’s death, plan to
\nattend the funeral, said UM Head Track Coach Joe Walker.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nUM’s track athletes have been stationed at the Ole Miss
\nStudent Union from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily this week,
\nraising money to help Lockhart’s family with funeral
\nexpenses. They will continue to do so Thursday and Friday.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nLockhart was a member of the gold medal-winning U.S.
\n4×400-relay team in the 2006 World Junior Championships in
\nBeijing.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nHe finished ninth in the 400 meters and was a member of the
\n4×400-meter relay team that finished eighth at the 2006 SEC
\nOutdoor Championships. At the 2006 SEC Indoor
\nChampionships, he finished eighth in the 400 meters and was
\na member of the 4×400-meter relay team that finished
\nfifth.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nLockhart was the top collegiate finisher in the 400 meters,
\nposting a time of 47.70, at the McCravy Memorial.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nHe was the son of Ronnie Lockhart and Clarissa Lockhart of
\nVaiden.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
