For insurers, the prospect of insuring commercial space travel offers great opportunity, but it is also riddled with uncertainty.<\/p>\n<p>Companies such as Space X and Virgin Galactic are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/tech\/2013\/10\/14\/spacex-test-launch\/2982657\/\">taking steps<\/a> to offer space tourism to the mainstream public. If Space X and Virgin Galactic succeed in providing mainstream commercial space flight, they will need to offer insurance. Insurance helps commercial space flight operators to better manage and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spacelaw.olemiss.edu\/jsl\/pdfs\/articles\/jsl-36-ordyna.pdf\">assess risk and therefore allow them to grow<\/a>.
