OXFORD, Miss. — Forty-one Ole Miss student-athletes were among 655 named to the 2013 Fall Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll, announced Thursday by SEC Commissioner Mike Slive.\u00a0 The Rebels\u2019 honorees include 24 from football, 14 from soccer and 3 from volleyball.<\/p>\n

Football boasts several multiple-time honorees including Tyler Campbell, Andrew Ritter, and D.T. Shackelford, who earned the honor for the fifth consecutive year.\u00a0 All three helped lead the Rebels to an 8-5 overall record and the team\u2019s second straight bowl victory (Music City) under head coach Hugh Freeze.<\/p>\n

Soccer had an outstanding year on and off the pitch.\u00a0 Fourteen of the 15 players eligible for the SEC Fall Honor Roll made the list, including the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Rafaelle Souza, and four-time honoree Erin Emerson.\u00a0 They helped lead the Rebels to one of the most successful seasons in program history, including a 16-6-2 record and a second-round appearance in the NCAA Tournament.<\/p>\n

Volleyball was led by three-time honorees Rachael McLamore and Skylar Johnson.The 2013 Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2013 Spring, Summer and Fall terms.<\/p>\n

Any student-athlete who participates in a Southeastern Conference championship sport or a student-athlete who participates in a sport listed on his\/her institution\u2019s NCAA\u2008Sports Sponsorship Form is eligible for nomination to the Academic Honor Roll. The following criteria should be followed: (1) A student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.00 or above for either the preceding academic year (two semesters or three quarters) or have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution. (2) If a student-athlete attends summer school, his\/her grade point average during the summer academic term must be included in the calculation used to determine eligibility for the Academic Honor Roll. (3) Student-athletes eligible for the Honor Roll include those receiving an athletics scholarship, recipients of an athletics award (i.e., letter winner), and non-scholarship student-athletes who have been on a varsity team for two seasons. (4) Prior to being nominated, a student-athlete must have successfully completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of non-remedial academic credit toward a baccalaureate degree at the nominating institution. (5) The student-athlete must have been a member of a varsity team for the sport\u2019s entire NCAA Championship segment.<\/p>\n
