\nOXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss Outdoors at the University of
\nMississippi has several trips left on this semester’s
\nschedule that should interest nature lovers and sporting
\nenthusiasts. The adventures, under the guidance of trained
\nstudent trip leaders, are open UM students, employees and
\ncommunity members.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nA division of the Department of Campus Recreation, OMOD
\nemphasizes adventure, environmental awareness, challenge,
\neducation, personal development, safety and fun.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nFrom now through December, OMOD offers trips with
\ndestinations as close as Sardis Lake and as far away as
\nWinter Park, Colo. The two remaining events this month are
\nan Oct. 14 sailing clinic at Sardis Lake for $20\/$25 and an
\nOct. 26-28 canoe float weekend at Buffalo River, Ark., for
\n$65\/$75.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nSpace is limited, and payment of fees is required upon
\nregistration. Shannon Baker, OMOD assistant director, said
\nfor weekend trips, planners strive to choose locations
\nwithin an eight-hour drive, while keeping fees to a
\nminimum. The schedule also includes extended trips, such as
\nbackpacking and snow sports.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“We offer a range of opportunities, from canoeing to
\nwhitewater rafting to rock climbing and many more,” Baker
\nsaid. “Some trips are laid-back and some are physically
\nintense; but whatever your outdoors passion, OMOD can
\nprovide it. We just encourage you to get out and live.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nLeigh Peterson, a junior biology major who got involved in
\noutdoor recreation while attending Mississippi Gulf Coast
\nCommunity College, has been on two OMOD trips.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“Both the trips were well-planned and very fun,” Peterson
\nsaid.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nPeterson said she loves the challenges the trips provide
\nand the interactions with new people. “The OMOD trips are
\ngreat for getting to meet new people or just to experience
\nsomething new. With every trip is a new experience, so
\nencourage anyone who’s curious about the outdoors and
\nwanting to learn more, to sign up for one OMOD trip and you
\nwill be hooked,” Peterson said.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nMost trip registration deadlines are the Tuesday before the
\ntrip date. You must pay for your trip upon registration to
\nsecure your spot.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nBouldering & Bluegrass Weekend in Horsepens 40, Ala. Cost:
\n$65\/$75 -Nov. 16-20: Fall Break: Backpacking the Ozarks,
\nOzark Highland Trail, Ark. Cost: $150\/$180 -Dec. 1: Grimy
\nGripper Bouldering Competition, U.T. Memphis Indoor
\nClimbing Wall. Cost: $25\/$35 -Dec. 7-14: Wilderness First
\nResponder Certification, UM Turner Center. Cost: $540\/$560
\n-Dec. 14-21: Winter Break Ski Trip, Winter Park, Colo.
\nCost: $650\/$675
