Home to orientation, theatre and musical productions and assemblies, Fulton Chapel is one of the most recognizable buildings on campus. It was built in 1927 and named after Robert Burwell Fulton, an Alabama native who attended the university in 1869. He received a bachelor of arts degree with highest honors, Gerald Walton wrote in &#8220;The University of Mississippi: A Pictorial History.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fulton completed a Master\u2019s degree while at Ole Miss, and while he was given several honorary doctorates he did not continue his studies further. He did hold several leadership positions in national organizations, including being the president of the National Association of State Universities for five years and also he served as president of the Southern Educational Association.<\/p>\n<p>Fulton served as Chancellor from 1892 to 1906 and is remembered as the father of the schools of engineering, education and medicine at Ole Miss.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Two interesting notes about Fulton: his father-in-law was Landon Garland, of Garland Hall fame, and the Fulton Chapel sign is misprinted.
