{"id":35129,"date":"2014-04-11T08:00:41","date_gmt":"2014-04-11T13:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.olemiss.edu\/?p=35129"},"modified":"2014-09-23T08:26:42","modified_gmt":"2014-09-23T13:26:42","slug":"southern-foodways-alliance-to-be-featured-on-mpb-premiere","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web20.olemiss.edu\/news\/wordpress\/southern-foodways-alliance-to-be-featured-on-mpb-premiere\/","title":{"rendered":"Southern Foodways Alliance to be Featured on MPB Premiere"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>JACKSON, Miss.\u00a0\u2013 The third season of Mississippi Public Broadcasting&#8217;s healthy cooking show, &#8220;Fit to Eat,&#8221; will premiere at 7:30 p.m.\u00a0April 17, featuring a special segment on Southern Foodways Alliance at the University of Mississippi.<\/p>\n<p>The segment, titled &#8220;Down on the Farm,&#8221; is a new addition to the series that was created to promote a better understanding of local foods and the individuals and organizations that provide them.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This season is jam-packed with exciting, informative episodes,&#8221; said Key Ivy, the show&#8217;s executive producer. &#8220;Our new &#8216;Down on the Farm&#8217; segments will take viewers around the state to visit local farms, dairies, farmers markets plus much more.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>During the segment, viewers will hear from Amy Evans, SFA&#8217;s lead oral historian, about the mission of the SFA. Evans will describe the Delta Hot Tamale Trail and the widespread popularity of the specialty.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the season, viewers will once again see Mississippi chef and restaurateur Rob Stinson put a healthier twist on family-friendly classics such as chicken nuggets, blackened redfish and pizza, while registered dietitian Rebecca Turner will give a more in-depth look at nutritional information, including calories, portion control and more.<\/p>\n<p>Viewers can also expect a series of guest co-hosts to join Stinson in the kitchen with each episode.
