\nIsola and watching as he stood behind the counter,
\ncarefully compounding prescriptions with a mortar and
\npestle. It’s an image that has defined the Linton family.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n
\ntogether Allen’s mother and father; they met there in 1946
\nand were married in 1948. Pharmacy is the career many
\nothers in the family chose. And it’s the reason Allen and
\nher mother, Sara LeMaster Linton, have given $25,000 to the
\nUM School of Pharmacy to seed the Linton Family Pharmacy
\nScholarship Endowment.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
\nsaid Allen, who works as a cancer navigator at Baptist
\nCenters for Cancer Care-North Mississippi. She earned both
\nbachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Ole Miss.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
\npart of our family. We feel a lot of loyalty to the school.
\nHaving the gift of an Ole Miss education is a treasure,
\nespecially if passed on to future generations. My mother
\nwanted to do this to help enrich the lives of others.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
\nmembers who attended UM’s pharmacy school. It is to be
\nawarded to full-time students from Mississippi enrolled in
\nthe school, with preference going to students from
\nHumphreys, Lee and Panola counties, where most of the
\nLinton family members call home.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
\nLinton family,” said Barbara G. Wells, dean of the pharmacy
\nschool. “The example provided by their wonderful family is
\nan inspiration to pharmacists and pharmacy educators
\neverywhere. Their dedication to help those who follow them
\ninto the profession will make a meaningful difference in
\nthe personal lives and academic experience of deserving
\npharmacy students.”

\nAllen’s grandfather. In 1911, he became the first member of
\nthe family to graduate from the UM pharmacy school. A
\ndedicated student, he served as president of his pharmacy
\nclass.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
\ncalling, rather than simply a job. He was known for keeping
\nprices as low as possible in his store in the Humphreys
\nCounty town of Isola. Sometimes he didn’t charge at all,
\nand routinely waited for payment until the Delta cotton was
\npicked, baled and sold. In some ways, with this gift from
\nhis family, that legacy of giving lives on.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
\nhonored to have a scholarship bear his name. “He was an
\nextraordinary, humble and gracious man,” Allen said. “This
\nis such an appropriate way to honor his legacy. He valued
\neducation, and he was always trying to help people better
\ntheir lives.” It was a lesson passed to future
\ngenerations.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
\nOle Miss on the GI Bill after serving in the Army Air
\nForce, flying transport supply missions in the
\nChina-Burma-India theater during World War II. He graduated
\nfrom the pharmacy school in 1948 and devoted his entire
\n33-year career to pharmaceutical service as a Parke-Davis
\nrepresentative. He passed away in 1988 at age 65.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
\nfrom Ole Miss with a pharmacy degree in 1948, when pharmacy
\nwas considered a nontraditional career choice for women.
\nShe was one of only four women in her class.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
\ndrugstores in and around Tupelo. In 1967, she was the first
\npharmacist hired at North Mississippi Medical Center in
\nTupelo. She worked there for 33 years before retiring at
\nage 73.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\noriginally from Isola, is a pharmacist at Forrest General
\nHospital in Hattiesburg. Camille’s son, Robert R. Roberts
\nIII (BSPH 1994), works for Compound Pharmaceutical
\nTechnologies, a new compounding-only pharmacy in Daphne,
\nAla. Robert’s wife, Julie Giddings Roberts (BSPH 1995),
\nworks for Mobile Mental Health as the director of pharmacy
\nfor BayPointe Hospital in Mobile, Ala. She was also
\ninstrumental in starting and managing the pharmacy at
\nMobile Mental Health’s inpatient division. Allen’s first
\ncousin, Samuel Cook “Sandy” Sugg Jr. (BSPH 1976), also
\noriginally from Isola, works in Memphis at Delta Medical
\nCenter.
