\nOXFORD, Miss. – During October, the University of
\nMississippi’s Department of Journalism introduced a new
\nregular publication, MZINE, a full-color, 20-page magazine
\nshowcasing student work.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nSamir Husni, journalism chair, is the magazine’s publisher.
\nGarreth Blackwell, journalism instructor, serves as art
\ndirector and Robin Street, instructor in journalism and
\npublic relations, oversees the editorial side of the
\npublication.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nHusni said the magazine completes the missing piece of Ole
\nMiss’ student media operation. Plans call for it to become
\na weekly publication in connection with a new course in
\nmagazine publishing.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“This magazine is yet another effort to complete the circle
\nof media that we have at Ole Miss,” Husni said. “We have a
\ndaily newspaper, an online operation, a TV station, a radio
\nstation and a quarterly magazine. The only missing thing
\nfrom the circle of media is a weekly. I hope that what
\nwe’ve done now with MZINE is just the first baby step
\ntoward a weekly publication that will make our circle
\ncomplete.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe third issue of MZINE is to be available Nov. 9. It
\nfocuses on Putlizer Prize-winning author Thomas L.
\nFriedman, who recently visited the Oxford campus and
\ndelivered the Honors College 10th anniversary address. The
\nmagazines can be picked up in Farley Hall and the Ole Miss
\nStudent Union.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nStreet said MZINE is significant because it gives students
\nanother type of media for showcasing their work.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“Our class does not just teach the theory of magazine
\nproduction; there’s no theory involved,” Street said.
\n“Instead, the students actually produce the magazine.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nMZINE covers topics such as people, entertainment, trends,
\nculture, lifestyle and the arts. The first issue
\nhighlighted volunteerism in the Lafayette, Oxford and
\nUniversity communities, the second issue covered food.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
