\nOXFORD, Miss. – Members of the Business School Advisory
\nBoard in the School of Business Administration at the
\nUniversity of Mississippi offered business students advice
\nand guidance during the board’s fall meeting on campus in
\nOctober.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nThe board is the core group of alumni who help make
\ndecisions about the overall direction of the business
\nschool, said Brian Reithel, business school dean.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nIn a panel discussion format, more than 50 students were
\ngiven an opportunity speak with board members and 16 other
\nbusiness school alumni. Students were divided into six
\ngroups and rotated among alumni groups of four members
\neach.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“BAB members have some great experiences, and we want to
\nconnect directly with students to help them get started in
\ntheir careers, said Bill Fry, president and CEO of Oreck
\nCorp. “This process seems more action-oriented than just
\nmaking ourselves available to them or speaking to classes.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe suggestion for the panel came from Fry, who is a former
\nU.S. Navy officer and past president and CEO of Dixie Group
\nand Bell.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“The BAB has folks with years of experience and plenty of
\nlessons learned from making mistakes as well as successes,”
\nhe said.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“I feel like I gained some valuable insight from the
\nmembers of the panel,” said senior marketing major Abby
\nKruse. “I was told to always think about the little things
\nduring an interview, to always send thank you cards and to
\nfind my passion.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nPanel members came from a wide variety of professions,
\nspecializing in various aspects of business. Several
\ngraduated from the school’s MBA program within the last
\nfive years.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“These more recent graduates are not very far away from the
\nexperience (of choosing careers) themselves, and would know
\nwhat a junior or senior should be doing now, in order to
\nfind success in the future,” said John Holleman, director
\nof corporate relations and MBA services in the business
\nschool.
