\nOXFORD, Miss. — Award-winning authors Barry Hannah and
\nGary Short are to read some of their best poetry and
\nfiction at the University of Mississippi Thursday (Nov.
\n8).
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nThe faculty reading, sponsored by the Department of
\nEnglish, begins at 7 p.m. in Bryant Hall Gallery. Admission
\nis free and open to the public.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nFounder of the university’s Master of Fine Arts in Creative
\nWriting, Hannah has written 12 books, including the
\ncollections “High Lonesome” and “Airships.” The latter is
\nregarded as an American classic. He has been honored by the
\nAmerican Academy of Arts and Letters, and was nominated for
\nthe American Book Award for “Ray” and the National Book
\nAward for “Geronimo Rex,” which won the William Faulkner
\nPrize.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nShort is a visiting professor of English and administrator
\nof the MFA in Creative Writing program at Ole Miss. He was
\nformerly on the faculty at the University of
\nAlaska-Fairbanks and at Old Dominion University in
\nVirginia. He has been a writing fellow at Fine Arts Work
\nCenter in Provincetown and a Stegner Fellow at Stanford
\nUniversity. Short’s works include the books “Theory of
\nTwilight,” “Flying Over Sonny Liston” and “10 Moons and 13
\nHorses.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“This is my first reading at Ole Miss,” Short said. “It’s
\nmy introduction to the community, and I’m honored to be on
\nthe same bill as Barry Hannah.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
