OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 The Ole Miss community joined University of Mississippi ROTC cadets as they carried the nation’s colors through campus and downtown Oxford during a memorial run honoring those who were killed, as well as the first responders who rushed in to help the victims, during the 9\/11 attacks 13 years ago.<\/p>\n

More than 300 cadets and community members completed the nearly 2-mile run bright and early Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

“The run went great and we were very happy with the turnout,” said Army Master Sgt. Matt Hayes, a senior military instructor at UM. “We had great support from (Athletics Director) Ross Bjork, (Director of Special Events) Christine Wallace and several others.”<\/p>\n

After the run, Hayes and UM women’s soccer coach Matt Mott spoke for a short time to conclude the event.<\/p>\n

“I want to thank all the cadets and runners who ran this morning,” Hayes said. “Remember, our nation is stronger than ever.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
