\nOXFORD, Miss. — In a recent private ceremony at the
\nUniversity of Mississippi, officials unveiled a portrait of
\nthe couple who generously made possible the renovation of
\nLenoir Hall into a permanent home for the Department of
\nFamily and Consumer Sciences.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nAlumni John and Lenoir Stanley of Corinth were in
\nattendance, along with a gathering of their family and
\nfriends, when the Stanleys’ portrait was unveiled in the
\nbuilding’s foyer by Chancellor Robert Khayat and FCS chair
\nTeresa Carithers.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“The Stanleys have continued to be strong supporters of our
\nstudents and faculty,” Carithers said. “The portrait
\nprovides our students with a personal connection to those
\nwho helped provide resources to enrich their academic
\ncareers. It is always very thrilling to be with them,
\nbecause they express such sincere admiration for the
\ncourses we teach. We have been truly blessed.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nJohn Stanley IV graduated from UM in 1970 with a business
\ndegree, and Lenoir Wadlington (Stanley) earned a bachelor
\nof arts in 1973. John Stanley and the couple’s children,
\nClayton and Lamar, made the renovation gift in Lenoir’s
\nhonor.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nStanley said the plaque outside the building describes
\ntheir motivation. It reads: “To the honor of Lenoir
\nWadlington Stanley, whose family reaped the benefits and
\npleasures of her home economics degree and whose husband
\nshares her great admiration for this department of the
\nSchool of Applied Sciences.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nFollowing renovation to convert the former Zeta Tau Alpha
\nsorority house into a suitable academic building, Lenoir
\nHall opened in 2003 as home to FCS. Known as the Department
\nof Home Economics until 1996, FCS was renamed and refocused
\nto meet the needs of changing lifestyles and demands of the
\ninformation age, while maintaining the structural
\nprinciples on which it was founded.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nFCS boasts an enrollment of nearly 400 students, 250 of
\nwhom are hospitality management majors. Graduates of the
\nprogram go into a diverse range of careers, including
\nresort management, hotel management, restaurant ownership
\nand event planning.
