OXFORD, Miss. – Homecoming weekend is finally here!<\/p>\n

Festivities for the fun-filled weekend began Thursday at the Student Union Plaza with RebelWell’s Food Day Festival and Farmer’s Market. About a dozen local vendors sold\u00a0fresh veggies, homemade honey, salsa and jam and delightful desserts.<\/p>\n

Yokna Bottoms Farm offered a variety of vegetables for sale at Food Day Festival and Farmer’s Market Thursday.<\/p><\/div>\n

As an added bonus, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi Chef Labron Alexander and registered dietician Brittany Simmons held a cooking demonstration to offer healthy tips to students.<\/p>\n

Blue Cross Blue Shield Executive Chef Labron Alexander and registered dietician Brittany Simmons offered a healthy cooking demonstration for students on Thursday.<\/p><\/div>\n

In just a short amount of time, the duo whipped up a ginger kale smoothie (which was actually very good), sweet potato hummus, microwaved corn on the cob (yes, you read that right) and oven-fried chicken. Samples and recipe cards were also offered.<\/p>\n

What a way to kick off Homecoming, right?<\/p>\n

But it’s just getting started! The events continue today\u00a0with a Homecoming Parade at 5:30 p.m. and Square Jam at 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
