\nOXFORD, Miss. – The pedestrian path that winds through
\nBailey’s Woods between the University of Mississippi Museum
\nand William Faulkner’s historic home, Rowan Oak, has a new
\nbridge.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nA 60-foot steel bridge replaced the old wooden one Friday,
\nsaid Albert Sperath, director of University Museum and
\nHistoric Houses. The custom-built bridge was lifted 1,000
\nfeet by helicopter and eased into the spot where it was
\npermanently installed.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“The airlift was the best way to place it to avoid any
\nvehicle access roads in the woods,” Sperath said. “The
\narrival of the bridge completes an improvement project on
\nthe quarter-mile trail which began in June.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe $170,000 project was funded by a grant from U.S.
\nDepartment of Housing and Urban Development, made possible
\nwith support from U.S. Rep. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), and
\nanother grant from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife,
\nFisheries and Parks, Sperath said. Panola Construction Co.
\nInc. of Batesville was the contractor.
