\"unnamed\"<\/a>The Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts<\/a> is a beautiful venue that opened in 2003. Since its opening, it\u2019s been responsible for bringing big-city events to Oxford, giving Ole Miss students entertainment opportunities that other universities dream of, and for that we are very thankful it is located right here on our campus.<\/p>\n

The Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts offers a variety of performances year-round.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Ford Center\u2019s mission is to complement education by enriching the intellectual and cultural environment of the university. In doing so, the Ford Center hosts more than\u00a0150 events each year in performing arts, humanities and public affairs.<\/p>\n

Performers and speakers who\u00a0have graced the Ford Center stage include B.B. King, Morgan Freeman, James Earl Jones and Prince Edward.<\/p>\n

And of course, it was the host site of the 2008 presidential debate between Barack Obama and John McCain.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the Ford Center, Ole Miss students truly have an opportunity to become cultured, well-rounded people. The variety of shows that come through the venue offers something for everyone.<\/p>\n

In 1998, the Gertrude C. Ford Foundation gave\u00a0$20 million to the university for the construction of the venue, followed by $500,000 from the state for initial planning and a $10 million appropriation.<\/p>\n

Next up for the Ford Center is Rioult Dance NY<\/a>, coming up Wednesday ( Nov. 5) and national Broadway touring production of “Sister Act” on \u00a0Nov. 10.<\/p>\n

Tickets to all shows can be purchased at the UM Box Office, located inside the Ole Miss Student Union.<\/p>\n
