ArtZone students watch as Tibetan monks paint a mandala using colored sand in the Ole Miss Student Union.<\/p><\/div>\n

The University Museum collaborated with the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts<\/a> this semester\u00a0and took its ArtZone<\/a> after-school program to see a unique art display.<\/p>\n

Tibetan monks, on campus to perform in “Mystical Arts of Tibet: Sacred Music, Sacred Dance,” created\u00a0a meticulous work of art called a mandala made from colored sand in the Ole Miss Student Union.\u00a0The visit is just one example of what children get to see as part of the ArtZone program, available for children from kindergarten through sixth grade.<\/p>\n

Activities each week revolve around museum permanent and travel exhibits, as well as special collections and events, such as the mandala. During activity time, students are encouraged to use museum collection items to inspire their own works of art.<\/p>\n

The ArtZone program runs\u00a012 weeks throughout the semester from 3 to 5 p.m.\u00a0Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.<\/p>\n

The cost per family for museum members is $70 and $150 for nonmembers. The deadline to sign up for the spring semester is Jan. 20.<\/p>\n
