Ford Center for the<br \/>\nPerforming Arts. They include magic, opera, ballet and<br \/>\nBroadway musicals plus a frog and a toad.<br \/>\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\n<span>Of course, the Ford Center is not bringing a real frog and<br \/>\ntoad to its stage, but Oxford resident Allyson Best said<br \/>\nher two little girls are &#8220;definitely looking forward to<br \/>\nhopping and singing along&#8221; during the Broadway musical &#8220;A<br \/>\nYear with Frog and Toad.&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<span>While 5-year-old Aubrey and 2-year-old Lauren will have to<br \/>\nwait until April 12 to meet Arnold Lobel&#8217;s beloved<br \/>\ncharacters, Best said her &#8220;bundles of boundless energy&#8221;<br \/>\nwill be OK, &#8220;especially since they&#8217;ll get a chance to see a<br \/>\nlittle magic in February.&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<span>Best is referring to female illusionist Lyn Dillies, whose<br \/>\nperformance is scheduled Feb. 10.<br \/>\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<span>&#8220;Ole Miss really aims to bring outstanding performances to<br \/>\nour hometown, which is just one of the reasons I love this<br \/>\nuniversity so much,&#8221; Best said. &#8220;&#8216;Frog and Toad&#8217; plays all<br \/>\nover the world and it&#8217;s so amazing that it&#8217;s coming here.<br \/>\nMy husband Brad and I won&#8217;t have to drive miles and hours<br \/>\nto take our girls to see this musical.&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<span>The show is part of the Ford Center&#8217;s new Family Friendly<br \/>\nSeries, which is sure to be &#8220;a favorite for years to come,&#8221;<br \/>\nsaid Norm Easterbrook, Ford Center director.<br \/>\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<span>&#8220;Many of our new programs are responses to requests by<br \/>\nfolks in the community &#8211; especially in the area of<br \/>\nfamily-friendly programs,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We want to provide<br \/>\nsome affordable family experiences for young people to be<br \/>\nintroduced to the Ford Center and to make the Ford Center<br \/>\nevents more familiar and accessible to audiences of all<br \/>\nages.&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<span>In this effort, Easterbrook also has added the 108 Ford<br \/>\nCenter series to this season&#8217;s lineup.<br \/>\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<span>&#8220;108 Ford Center is quite a different endeavor,&#8221;<br \/>\nEasterbrook said. &#8220;Here again, this is an effort to<br \/>\nintroduce programs to a younger audience, in this case 18-<br \/>\nto 24-year-olds.&#8221; The 108 Ford Center performances will be<br \/>\n&#8220;coupled with opportunities to meet the performers before<br \/>\nor after the show along with several other activities that<br \/>\nwe hope will build a following from within this age group,&#8221;<br \/>\nEasterbrook said.<br \/>\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<span>The series includes the musical production &#8220;DRUM!&#8221; February<br \/>\n15 and &#8220;The Mystical Arts of Tibet&#8221; May 1.<br \/>\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<span>&#8220;I think &#8216;The Mystical Arts of Tibet&#8217; will attract a huge<br \/>\nstudent following,&#8221; Easterbrook said. &#8220;Endorsed by the<br \/>\nDalai Lama as a means of promoting world peace and healing,<br \/>\nthese famed monks will construct a sand mandala painting in<br \/>\nconnection with their appearance.&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<span>During the month before the monks&#8217; visit, University Museum<br \/>\nplans to host a photographic exhibition of their travels. A<br \/>\nlecture on the sand mandala, a Tibetan Buddhist tradition<br \/>\nsymbolizing the transitory nature of things, is slated as<br \/>\nwell, Easterbrook said.<br \/>\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<span>A Jan. 29 performance by the Time for Three musicians is<br \/>\nanother show that Easterbrook expects will attract<br \/>\nstudents.<br \/>\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<span>&#8220;Time for Three is a young, dynamic trio of classically<br \/>\ntrained string musicians with a style that transcends<br \/>\nperformance genres,&#8221; Easterbrook said. &#8220;In concert, a<br \/>\ngypsy-tinged piece may follow a bluegrass standard. This<br \/>\ngroup continues to win over widely diverse audiences across<br \/>\nAmerica and have been enthusiastically received by schools<br \/>\nand communities.<br \/>\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<span>&#8220;With magic, opera, Shakespeare and a frog and toad added<br \/>\nto the mix, plus the 108 Ford and Ford Family Friendly<br \/>\nseries, the upcoming spring season is refreshing, but also<br \/>\nenchanting and, at times, downright amazing,&#8221; he added.<br \/>\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<span>The season kicks off at 8 p.m. Jan. 27 with Quink, an<br \/>\nacclaimed vocal group that ranks among the top a cappella<br \/>\nensembles of the world. The schedule of 8 p.m performances<br \/>\nalso includes Time for Three Jan. 29; &#8220;Ring of Fire,&#8221; the<br \/>\ntale of Johnny Cash told through songs and stories, Feb. 2;<br \/>\n&#8220;DRUM!,&#8221; a musical production of Nova Scotia, Feb. 15; and<br \/>\n&#8220;Evita,&#8221; the true story of Argentina&#8217;s infamous Eva Peron,<br \/>\nFeb. 18. &#8220;The Magic of Lyn &#8211; America&#8217;s Premier Female<br \/>\nIllusionist,&#8221; for children of all ages, is slated for 2<br \/>\np.m. Feb. 10.<br \/>\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<span>Mid-season performances are &#8220;Romeo and Juliet&#8221; by the St.<br \/>\nPetersburg Ballet on March 4, the Empire Brass on March 28<br \/>\nand the Smothers Brothers on March 29. All March<br \/>\nperformances are at 8 p.m.<br \/>\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<span>&#8220;A Year with Frog and Toad&#8221; takes the stage at 3 p.m. on<br \/>\nApril 12. The season concludes with &#8220;The Mystical Arts of<br \/>\nTibet&#8221; on May 1.<br \/>\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<span>Ticket prices vary by shows and seating.
