OXFORD, Miss. – Oxford law firm Tannehill & Carmean PLLC,
\nhas contributed $20,000 to the Robert Langley Memorial
\nScholarship endowment at the University of Mississippi.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nJ. Rhea Tannehill Jr. and Jay P. Carmean, both Ole Miss
\nalums, said they wanted to do something to honor the memory
\nof their friend, Robert Langley, a UM police officer who
\nwas killed Oct. 21, 2006 during a traffic stop.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“Robert was a very principled guy,” Tannehill said. “He
\nliked doing the right thing and he wanted to help people.
\nHe was working on his degree at Ole Miss, but he never got
\nto finish it. I think he would be pleased to know this
\nscholarship established in his name will help others get an
\neducation.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nTannehill and Carmean came to know Langley personally
\nthrough their professional interaction. They grew to have a
\npositive working relationship and a friendship.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“Robert was such a good-hearted, easygoing person,” Carmean
\nsaid.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nLangley and Tannehill also served in the National Guard
\ntogether, another reason he felt compelled to contribute to
\nthe scholarship.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“We kept in touch by e-mail while Robert served in
\nAfghanistan,” Tannehill said. “He volunteered to go with
\nhis unit because he saw an opportunity to serve his country
\nand earn more money for his family.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe scholarship is to be awarded to an Ole Miss student
\nmajoring in criminal justice, helping students who wish to
\nserve the community, as Langley did.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“Robert Langley’s life was characterized by his commitment
\nto others,” said Gloria Kellum, vice chancellor for
\nuniversity relations. “We are grateful for this generous
\ngift from the law firm of Tannehill and Carmean, which
\nhonors the memory of a very respected member of our Ole
\nMiss family.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nLangley was a four-year veteran of the University Police
\nDepartment. He is survived by his wife, Lisa, two sons and
\ntwo stepdaughters.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“Rhea and Jay knew Robert on a personal level and they knew
\nhe worked hard to continue his education,” Lisa Langley
\nsaid. “I hope this scholarship will help give someone an
\nopportunity to receive a top-quality education, because
\nyour education can never be taken away from you. I know
\nRobert is jumping up and down in heaven about this. The
\nOxford and Ole Miss communities have been wonderful to me
\nand my family. I’m thankful for them every day for helping
\nremember Robert in this way. He was a beautiful person and
\na loving husband.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
