\nOXFORD, Miss. – Roots and Shoots, an environmental
\nawareness student organization at the University of
\nMississippi, is marking Climate Change Awareness Day
\nThursday in cooperation with Focus the Nation, a national
\neducation initiative.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nThe day features a 2:30 p.m. program in Shoemaker Hall,
\nRoom 401, with several speakers scheduled, including Alicia
\nWaite, president of the student organization. The event is
\nfree and open to the public.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“Focus the Nation is a nationwide day devoted to dialogue
\nand education on solutions to climate change,” Waite said.
\n“We are inviting both the university and Oxford community
\nto join us.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nOther speakers are Oxford Mayor Richard Howorth and UM
\nchemical engineering professor Wei-Lin Chen.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nWaite is slated to discuss the club’s efforts, Howorth will
\nfocus on the city’s plans for addressing the problem and
\nChen plans to talk about the chemical aspects of global
\nwarming.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nFormerly known as the Sierra Student Coalition, the club is
\nmore than an environmental group, Waite said.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“Roots and Shoots also encompasses humanitarian and social
\nissues,” she said. For additional information, contact the
