\nOXFORD, Miss. – For University of Mississippi honors
\nstudent Betsy Morgan, a Freshman Ventures assignment to Los
\nAngeles turned into a real adventure that plays out on
\nWednesday’s broadcast of the television game show “The
\nPrice is Right.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nMorgan, an early-entry pharmacy student in the Sally
\nMcDonnell Barksdale Honors College, is a contestant on the
\nshow, which airs at 10 a.m. on CBS affiliates.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nStudents entering the honors college each fall are asked to
\nchoose from one of several destinations. They’re grouped in
\nteams of five, given expense money and assigned a subject
\nto interview on a broad, “overarching” question.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nMorgan, from Philadelphia, and three classmates were in Los
\nAngeles in December to interview U.S. Sen. Tom Haden about
\nsocial disobedience. On their first evening in their hotel,
\none of her friends was searching for things to do when she
\ndiscovered that tickets to “The Price is Right” are free.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“I have watched that show since I was really little,”
\nMorgan said. “And I thought, ‘How awesome would it be if we
\ncould just go and watch one of the tapings of the show?'”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nAfter printing their tickets and going to the studio where
\nthe show is filmed, Morgan and her companions learned that
\nthey would be taken out in groups of nine or 10 for
\ninterviews as possible contestants.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“When we were told that, I thought about how the people on
\nthe show are really loud, boisterous and energetic,” she
\nsaid. “I am usually a mild-mannered person, but I thought I
\ncould be outrageous if I had to be.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nWhen the crew member came by and began asking questions,
\nMorgan tried to come across as energetic and bubbly to
\nleave an impression. After her interview, she and her
\nfriends were led back into the studio to await the show’s
\nbeginning.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“While we were waiting for the show to start, they played
\ndisco music to try and get everyone pumped up,” she said.
\n“Drew Carey came out and the theme music started playing.
\nThen, they called out the first name, and it was me.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nMorgan cannot say much more about her experience on the
\nshow until after it is, but she said the experience did
\nchange her impression on the type of person Carey is.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“I was never really a big Drew Carey fan,” she said. “Then
\nI met him and he was really nice and even when we were
\noff-air he was talking to me even though he didn’t have
\nto.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“I thought that a celebrity like him would gain nothing by
\nbeing nice to a girl from Mississippi, but he seemed
\ngenuinely nice.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
