OXFORD, Miss. – A variety of entertainment is the offering
\nthis spring by theatre arts students at the University of
\nMississippi.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nThe lineup for the Department of Theatre Arts includes a
\ndance company’s exploration of love, a celebrated American
\nclassic and Broadway-inspired song and dance.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe season kicks off Wednesday (Feb. 13) at 8 p.m. in Meek
\nHall Auditorium with Mississippi: The Dance Company’s
\n“What’s Love Got to Do with It?” The performance features
\nnine dances, including swing-inspired, modern and ballet
\npieces and runs through Feb. 16.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nChoreographed by students and faculty, the show focuses on
\nmany aspects of love, such as romance, love of self and
\nspiritual love, said Jennifer Mizenko, associate professor
\nof theatre arts and one of the choreographers.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“This is dancing for dancing’s sake,” Mizenko said. “It’s
\nan evening where you’ll get nine different answers to the
\nquestion, ‘What’s love got to do with it?'”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nFollowing on April 2-6, the department presents a rendition
\nof John Steinback’s award-winning book “The Grapes of
\nWrath” in Fulton Chapel at 8 p.m. The show, directed by Dex
\nEdwards, associate professor of theatre arts, includes a
\nmatinee performance for local schools on opening day.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nEnding the theatre department’s 2007-08 season is the 27th
\nannual “Showstoppers,” a collection of 20 Broadway songs
\nand dances staged April 22-25 and 27 in Fulton Chapel. Show
\ntime is 8 p.m. except Sunday’s 2 p.m. performance. This
\nyear’s title, “The Showmakers,” celebrates the individuals
\nbehind the scenes of Broadway who direct, choreograph and
\nhelp with the concept or writing of a show, said Rene
\nPulliam, associate professor of theatre arts and the show’s
\ndirector. Showstoppers will feature numbers from musicals
\nsuch as “America” and “A Chorus Line.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“It (the show) is singing and dancing,” Pulliam said. “It’s
\na fun-filled evening of entertainment and just puts a smile
\non your face, makes you want to dance and sing.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nTickets prices for all three shows are $10.50 for adults,
\n$8.50 for children and seniors and $7 for UM students with
