\nOXFORD, Miss. – “DRUM!,”a musical production that brings
\nfour principal cultures together in a lively show of music,
\ndance, poetry, video, rhythm and song, comes to the
\nUniversity of Mississippi Feb. 15.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nDescribed as “sensational” by a writer in the Chicago
\nTribune and dubbed as “the musical heartbeat of Nova
\nScotia,” the show is set for 8 p.m. at the Gertrude C. Ford
\nCenter for the Performing Arts.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nTickets are $25 for general admission and $7 for UM
\nstudents. They are available by visiting the UM Box Office
\nin the Student Union, Ford Center Box Office or online at
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe show’s 20 musicians, dancers, drummers and singers come
\nfrom four cultures – African, Acadian, Aboriginal and
\nCeltic – to deliver the message that “we can hold on to who
\nwe are and still share a song, a stage, a country, a
\nworld,” said Norm Easterbrook, Ford Center director.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“The performance is especially suited for 108 Ford Center
\nprogramming, a series of performances and related
\npresentations designed to inspire a deeper understanding of
\nthe performing arts and perhaps challenge us all to see the
\nworld in which we live from a slightly different
\nperspective,” Easterbrook said.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nSince “DRUM!” first came to the stage in 1999, the
\nproduction has continuously received standing ovations and
\nrave reviews. One Boston Globe reviewer asked for an
\n“encore,” and a Halifax Chronicle Herald writer declared
\nthe production “unreviewable – it has to be experienced.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nOriginally conceived as a 45-minute tourism piece, “DRUM!”
\nwas performed as the main-stage show at Tall Ships 2000,
\nfeatured at a series of international conferences and aired
\nas an hourlong television special in 2005 on CBC
\nTelevision.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe production debuted as a full-length production in 2004,
\nrunning for 10 nights in its own specially designed theater
\nat the Halifax waterfront. In November 2005, “DRUM!” took
\nthe story of the rhythms of Nova Scotia across the United
\nStates, starting in Florida’s Van Wezel Center and
\nfinishing to a packed 1700-seat theater in Park City, Utah.
\nRecently, “DRUM!” was nominated for two East Coast Music
\nAwards.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
