The division also plans to introduce fournew lifeguard training courses in March for thoseinterested in lifeguard certification.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span>The programs are offered to UM faculty, staff and students,as well as the general public. The swim classes, which areunder way, typically enroll from 250 to 300 participantseach semester, said Christy Laissiter, head lifeguard andsupervisor of swimming lessons who has been teachingswimming at Ole Miss for three years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8220;Classes are divided up by skill level because we want tomake sure that everyone progresses through each level so wecan teach good skills that will remain for a lifetime,&#8221;Laissiter said. &#8220;But we also have adult classes that focuson their needs instead of putting them in a class withchildren.&#8221; Minimum age for children is 6 months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Group lessons with from four to five people are $30 perclass for members of the Turner Center and $35 fornonmembers. Private lessons are available at a cost $12.50for 30 minutes and $20 for one hour. The classes are held4-6:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m.-noonSaturday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Registration for swim classes will remain open for a fewweeks but interested participants should enroll as soon aspossible to take advantage of a maximum number of lessons,said Mark Garneau, assistant director.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>To register, visit the Turner Center between 8 a.m. and 5p.m. weekdays, e-mail SWIM@olemiss.edu or call 662-915-SWIM(7946).
